Laura Dean has been teaching at Bailey Fine Arts Centre for the past eight years. In that time she has taught ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, creative movement, and lyrical. She was a choreographer for the competition team for the 2013-2016 seasons and enjoyed working and traveling with the wonderful staff and girls on the team. She has also been on the Dance Theatre of Columbia Board of Directors for the past five years serving as its chair of ticketing for the past three, and secretary for the past two years. In addition to teaching dance at Bailey Fine Arts, she also spent a year as the dance teacher at Carolina Gymnastics for the team girls.
Laura is a graduate of the University of South Carolina Honors College where she earned her teaching certificate in Early Childhood Education. She served as an AmeriCorps Vista Summer Associate in 2014 in Oxford, Mississippi, and returned in 2016 to teach the first graders in the Horizons summer learning program. She has since joined the Center For Inquiry Elementary School staff as a Kindergarten and First Grade teacher here in Columbia, and will continue there this year teaching First Grade.
Laura received her dance training under the direction of Cari Kirkland here at Bailey Fine Arts and at Palmetto Center for the Arts under the direction of Anne Richardson. She has competed with the Bailey Fine Arts Competition Company at Platinum competitions and with the High Pointe Dance team at Starbound, Encore, and the Youth American Grand Prix competitions. She has performed in “Alice in Wonderland”, “Red Riding Hood”, and “Babes in Toyland” with the Dance Theatre of Columbia, and in numerous performances with the Palmetto Center for the Arts. She is excited to continue teaching young dancers this year at her studio home.
